What recent guests emphasize

A cozy lakeside retreat with attentive owners

Guests appreciate the rustic charm, beautiful lakefront setting, and responsive, caring ownership. While some room amenities like bedding firmness and cabin ventilation receive mixed feedback, the overall experience is relaxing and well-suited for groups and special occasions.

Guests often praise

  • Scenic lakeside location with a lovely, though small, beach and plentiful water activities including paddle boats and canoes.
  • Warm, rustic décor and spacious lodge with multiple rooms and cozy cabins providing ample space for groups.
  • Highly responsive, attentive, and accommodating owners who go the extra mile to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Quiet upstairs bedrooms that offer restful sleep despite lively gatherings.
  • Cleanliness and the unique historical atmosphere reflected in thoughtful decorations throughout the lodge.

Worth knowing

  • Beds in some rooms are noted as firm and could be more comfortable according to parts of the group.
  • Most rooms lack air conditioning, which may be noticeable during hot weather, although guests did not frequently complain.
  • Cabins can have a musty smell and require daily airing, especially in hot, humid conditions.
  • The beach area has very small leeches, which guests should be aware of but generally did not find problematic.
  • Nightlife is limited nearby, making the lodge better suited for relaxation and nature enjoyment rather than party scenes.

Best for

  • Large groups seeking spacious accommodations for family reunions, weddings, or celebrations.
  • Visitors looking for a tranquil, nature-focused getaway with lake access and outdoor activities.
  • Guests who value friendly and helpful service from family-run properties.
  • Those interested in a quiet atmosphere away from nightlife, with opportunities for fishing and golfing nearby.
  • Events such as fly fishing gatherings or bachelor/bachelorette parties wanting a unique rustic setting.

About this property

Welcome to Legacy Lodge

Legacy Lodge is a multi-purpose property that serves as a lodge, resort hotel, event venue, and wedding venue situated on W6821 Golf Course Rd in Winter, Wisconsin. Known for its rustic and cozy atmosphere, the lodge features a mix of rooms and cabins designed to provide a comforting up-north feel, often highlighted by thoughtfully curated decor and art. Its location along a portion of a lake includes access to a small but scenic beach, which guests have enjoyed for relaxation and recreational activities like paddle boating and canoeing.

The property offers ample space, accommodating large groups comfortably, which makes it suitable for family reunions, weddings, bachelor parties, or fly fishing events. Guests have noted the flexibility of the lodge to sleep up to 29 people, with some mentioning that while beds are mostly comfortable, a few found certain rooms a bit firm. The cabins, some equipped with air conditioning and basic kitchen facilities, provide a quieter option close to the water, though some guests have experienced occasional musty smells likely related to seasonal humidity.

Located opposite a unique 9-hole Scottish-style golf course, Legacy Lodge benefits from a peaceful natural setting that appeals to those seeking relaxation and outdoor enjoyment over nightlife. The owners have been described as attentive and responsive, contributing positively to the overall guest experience. While air conditioning is limited mostly to cabins and not all rooms, most visitors have found accommodations sufficiently comfortable, even during warmer months.

The lodge’s versatility extends to events, with previous guests successfully hosting weddings and social gatherings marked by ample natural light and quiet sleeping areas despite festivities. Nearby bars and the golf course add recreational variety for groups looking to mix outdoor leisure with social activities. The presence of small leeches at the beach has been noted, but this has not been a significant deterrent for visitors who appreciate the lakefront setting and available watercraft.

We stayed here for a buddies birthday and it was the cutest most beautiful place to stay. There’s rooms on rooms on rooms and little cabins that offered even more room to get cozy. The details and art in every room really gives you that rustic, cozy, up north feel. It sits on a great portion of a lake with a wonderful beach to spend the day on. Working with the owners I have only had great experiences. If we needed anything we were helped and taken care of. Will definitely be staying here in the future! :)

We loved the huge lodge. The space provided place for everyone to spread out and enjoy. The owners were great to work with and very responsive to the requests. The beds were ok a few of our group stated that they could have been better. A bit firm in some rooms. With the place able to sleep 29 people they are not kidding. Loved the fact ok f being right on the lake. Thanks for the great time and we will book again.

First off, David and Brenda (and even Tom) are extremely amazing people. We came from the Fox Valley area to check out the place twice (once during Feb or March when snow was still pretty heavy and cabins were closed for the season & twice during July because the cabins were open) for our small wedding location. Brenda was very communicative and very punctual, often getting back to us within a day and answered all questions that we had for her; she made sure that dinnerware and silverware were available for the wedding (and the whole weekend) and kept us well informed of the usage of everything in the lodge. The lodge was AMAZING during recession/photos of the wedding. Even during the day when we took the photos, it's like the lodge glowed with plenty of natural light. And it was even better at night. The upstairs bedroom is surprisingly quiet despite all the karaoke and yelling we did throughout the night; when I asked my guests how they slept despite all the noises we made, they said they did not hear anything at all so I'm glad they were comfortable. All but one of the rooms did not have AC; I didn't even realize until I stepped in on the second night and it was very hot but my guests who had that room never complained so I'm assuming it must've been quite comfortable for them even without it. The cabins weren't so bad, although I did agree with a musty smell for most of them. They just need to be aired out on a daily basis but given that this summer has been very hot and humid, I did generally understand the situation. All the cabins have AC; some have stove top, some have stove top & an oven, and the smaller cabins are pretty basic and comfortable. My guests were very comfortable in there also when I asked them about it. The beach was small but very beautiful. We rented a pontoon but everything else was included. Everyone enjoyed the paddle boat and canoeing and they also loved that there's a locker full of life jackets and toys for kids to play with. The only downfall to the beach is that there are leeches. DON'T PANIC! The leeches are extremely skinny and small (about 1/2 inch in full length) and there's barely any spotted. There will be an occasional 2 or 3 so check from your knees down after getting out from being in the water for a long time. Overall, our experience there was great. The view was beautiful and the lodge & cabins were so amazing. My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better location for our dream Lodge Wedding. Because of this location, my in-laws are definitely into making this a yearly tradition of doing lodging also since most of them are not big fans of camping.

We have hosted a fly fishing event at Legacy Lodge for the past three years and can recommend it without hesitation. The lodge is clean, the beds are comfortable, and the decorations are thoughtful, unique and speak to the history of the lodge and northern Wisconsin. We can't praise the owners more highly. They respond quickly and eagerly to any request or need. We feel honored to be able to stay at Legacy Lodge!

Stayed at Legacy Lodge for a bachelor's party. The location of the property was perfect for our group. Across the street is a 9-hole Scottish style gold course, the only one in Wisconsin. The cabins sit right on the lake with a large communal beach. There are also numerous bars within driving distance that gave us plenty to do. We felt that we had great value for the price that we paid to stay. Looking forward to going again!
